Metal Gear Solid V: Ranking The Missions From Worst To Best

By Jack Pooley /

4. Prologue: Awakening (Episode 0)

Overview: Escape the hospital. MGS V kicked off in unforgettable style with a riveting, hour-long prologue sequence which served as a tutorial to the game's control scheme and general mechanics. Snake wakes up from his nine-year coma and it's not long before the Cyprus hospital he's in is attacked by soldiers (including, surprisingly, Quiet), and with the help of Ishmael, Snake attempts to escape. As a full-on battle breaks out, you'll have your first encounter with the Man on Fire, who ends up pursuing Snake on a flaming horse in a thrilling chase sequence, as Revolver Ocelot just barely gets you to safety. Sure, it's basically just an extended QTE with some light gunplay, but it's exhilarating, super-creepy, and certainly up there with the best of the franchise's introductions.
