The best day one roster yet?

Mortal Kombat 11 was officially revealed at The Game Awards 2018. Then there was a gameplay reveal event on January 17th, and it showed off several characters, both new and old, returning to the series for the 11th instalment. Since then, more and more characters have been revealed and fans are frothing at the mouth to get their hands on this new instalment.

Mortal Kombat 11 looks to honour the history of the franchise, with an epic storyline involving time travel, but also continue expanding the mythos and branching in exciting new directions. For a series that is considered to be nothing but senseless violence, it sure is popular, and we can't wait to get our hands on the final product come April.

That said, April is so very far away, so we have to pour over what information we do have.

Not even half the roster has been announced yet, so there's plenty of time and space for wishful thinking., but let's take a look at what - and who - we do know.

13. Raiden

Raiden is arguably the main character in the entirety of Mortal Kombat, including the so-bad-they're-good movies. The God of Thunder is a mainstay of the series and seemingly the focal point of Mortal Kombat 11's story.

Raiden was the first character we had revealed for Mortal Kombat 11, as he and Scorpion clashed over the rooftops of a foggy, deserted temple. Right away, we're struck by the fact that this incarnation of Raiden is sporting red eyes and lightning around him, as opposed to the standard blue. Now it doesn't take a media student to teach you that blue means good, red means bad.

Spoilers for those who didn't finish MK X, but the story ends with Raiden corrupting himself by purifying the Jinsei.

As he kills Shinnok, Liu Kang and Katana are left as protectors of Neatherrealm. Raiden then leaves them with the severed head of Shinnok as a warning to never threaten Earthrealm. That firmly established the classic hero as the ultimate antagonist, although his actions seemed to have upset the timeline, but more on that later.

Raiden was an obvious inclusion in MK11, but this time around you can expect a more violent and visceral God of Thunder!
