Chandler Pasons is a good player when healthy. The problem is that he hasn't been healthy this year. Giving him $94M over the next 4 years was a really risky move by the Grizzlies. While he may turn out to be worth the gamble in the long run, with such high overall payroll the Grizzlies need some moves to clear cap space.

In this trade you get a good reserve who can lead the second unit or even start at shooting guard. His $3M for 3 years is also a lot easier to swallow.
