Nintendo NX: 8 New Leaked Details You Need To Know
8. It's Region Free
The Leak: Recently, a prominent tidbit of info began circulating from Let's Play Video Games' Laura Dale, claiming that the Nintendo NX will be region free, meaning any NX game from anywhere in the world can be played on any NX system.
What It Means: If correct, this would be a huge feather in Nintendo's cap. For years now, the company has been criticised for its old fashioned practices, including its handling of online multiplayer. To see Nintendo embrace something as positive as removing region restrictions on its next major console would be a huge deal.
This would also alleviate fan frustration when it comes to titles that rarely see western release, like the HD collection of Yakuza 1 & 2. Just because a game might never be localised, doesn't mean fans don't want to play it, and the ability for consumers to express interest in a wider variety of titles will only benefit Nintendo in the long run.
When the 3DS was revealed to be region locked, fans petitioned Nintendo to reconsider. A move like this would show that the company listened.
