Nintendo Switch: 10 Awesome Games With Overdue Sequels
10. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze may very well be the best Donkey Kong game ever made. There's been a lot of great Donkey Kong titles over the years, and the original actually helped keep Nintendo alive when Sega was beginning to dominate the market, but Tropical Freeze is something special.
Tropical Freeze originally released on the Wii U in 2014 but not too many got to experience it because...well...the Wii U sucked. So a Nintendo Switch port came in 2018 and allowed the masses to play through it for the first time and remember why they loved Donkey Kong. The game was funny, charming, and hard as balls, but a blast from start to finish. It stands confidently besides Nintendo's best platformers.
Yet, despite being one of Nintendo's most recognisable and beloved faces, Donkey Kong is actually one of the lesser selling franchises. That means a sequel to Tropical Freeze is by no means a guarantee, especially with developer Retro Studios currently working on Metroid Prime 4, but we're holding out hope that it will eventually make its way down the pipeline. In the meantime, if Nintendo wanted to make a spiritual successor to Donkey Kong 64 or Diddy Kong Racing, we'd take those too.
