Nintendo Switch: 10 Improvements It STILL Needs

Poor online services and Joy-Con drift are just two of the problems holding the Switch back.

Needing a big win after the lacklustre reception of the Wii U, Nintendo launched their latest console, the Nintendo Switch, in 2017.

Nintendo's business had been underperforming for several years prior to the launch of the new console. After launch, Nintendo has lavished in a new renascence they haven't seen since the Wii's release back in 2006. At the time of this writing, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 68.3 million units worldwide, becoming the twelfth best selling console of all time.

Nintendo was once the dominant king of the console industry, but over the last few years, Sony and Microsoft have made leaps and bounds over them technologically. Lacking in the main console market Nintendo mostly focused on their handheld, the 3DS, as it had been their biggest seller over the Wii U's lifecycle.

With the Switch, Nintendo combined both a home console experience with the convenience of a handheld, and it is nothing less than revolutionary.

That's not to say that it doesn't have its fair share of problems. With the launch of Sony's PS5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo will have to do more than just rely on the dual concept of their console to bring in more than just the casual gamer.

The Switch has been out for almost four years now, and there are many things that need an improvement.

10. Better User Interface

Some say simple is better when it comes to the user interface; look at Apple, they've hardly changed anything about their UI in years. The Switch's UI, however, is far too simple and bland.

The basic UI of the Switch is as follows: your most recently played games appear across the main screen, and at the bottom are various menus for you to access basic options. In the top left corner is your profile menu. That's it.

Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Simple is simple and that can be good. But let's compare to the Xbox One.

It launched back in 2013, and has changed it's UI numerous times until now, at the time of this writing, it has been perfected. Extravagant and full of choices, users can easily and quickly find any option they are looking for.

The Switch was released back in 2017, and in the last three years, there haven't been any major improvements to the UI, and that includes customization. To date, the Switch has two themes: dark and light. Even the 3Ds allowed for the purchase of themes to spice up the home menu.

But they did add a Mario load icon to the store. "Yay"
