Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers - Everything You Need To Know

Is this deal worth your money?

Nintendo's latest Mario Maker 2 Direct gave us a lot of new details about everyone's favorite level generator. One of the most interesting wasn't about the game itself, but rather, one of the methods you could use to purchase it.

Called "Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers", these are a pair of money-savers that came out of absolutely nowhere.

You can purchase them online or in the Nintendo eShop for $99.99. After that, you can use these vouchers to purchase two Nintendo Switch games that are normally priced at $59.99 each. It won't save you a whole lot of money, but at least it's Nintendo-certified. Besides, it's always helpful when the companies selling the games offer to make it a little easier on our wallets.

In usual Nintendo fashion, the vouchers went up the day they were announced.

That means that we have all the information we need. Nintendo isn't known for their sales or giving games reasonable prices, so this is new territory.

With such a random, somewhat overlooked shakeup to their sales policies though, let's go over everything that there is to know about the Switch's new voucher system.

8. You Have To Be A Nintendo Switch Online Member

Are you a member of Nintendo's online service? A lot of people are, but nowhere near as many as Nintendo would like. Nintendo knows that they haven't done a great job at converting their fans. Nintendo Switch Online is admittedly a lackluster service. It's cheap and does what it says it will, but compared to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live, it doesn't offer nearly as many incentives. Not unless you're a big fan of the free NES games that they release every month.

Luckily, Nintendo is taking steps to remedy this. Tetris 99 is proof of this, and now so are these vouchers. Will it be enough to make NSO as popular as the other two gaming services? Time will tell...but probably not.

Unlike the other NSO deals, this one is a limited-time offer. It's even referred to as such on Nintendo's website. These vouchers will only be available to purchase until July 31, 2019. That gives you a window of two months. That's not a whole lot of time to take advantage of Nintendo's rare generosity.

It'll be interesting to see what other limited-time offers Nintendo will provide in the future. If they wanted to, they could just offer Nintendo Switch Online exclusive discounts as Playstation and Xbox do. Unless this is already their version of that.
