Nioh Review Round-Up - PS4 Exclusive Hits The Mark
All the big reviews for Team Ninja’s Dark Souls-like action RPG.
Nioh, an action RPG made exclusively for the PS4, releases on February 8. If you’ve been waiting to see if the game matched dev team Team Ninja’s previous highly-rated efforts (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive), the Nioh review embargo dropped this morning and things are looking really rather good.
“Nioh isn't a masterpiece then,” said Eurogamer in its Nioh review. “It's not quite fresh or original enough to be. But it is a return to form for Team Ninja, a studio many feel had lost its way after the departure of its founder Tomonobu Itagaki in 2008.”
The Eurogamer Nioh review concluded: “Primarily single-player games are on the decline right now, but Nioh is a strong argument for the merits of this withering form.”

Hugely popular US magazine Game Informer said that “Nioh will break you down (and note this clearly, this is an uncompromising game that does not mind crushing your dreams) before it lifts you up, but you soon crave the thrill of mastering a new weapon or toppling a titanic boss.”
If you want a game to fill the Dark Souls void in your life, Nioh might be just what you’re looking for, with the review going on to say that “Nioh an excellent choice for your next dark action/RPG”.

In the Trusted Reviews Nioh review the game is described as Team Ninja’s best in years, achieved by “merging aspects of From Software’s classics with elements of its own ninja hits”.
Destructoid’s Nioh review claims that “Nioh feels like a true successor to the Ninja Gaiden series and fills a nice void that Souls left behind”.

Nioh is one of the first big releases of February 2017, a month that also sees Nintendo’s 3DS platformer Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Ubisoft’s epic war game For Honor, bone destroying sequel Sniper Elite 4, RTS sequel Halo Wars 2, and highly anticipated PS4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn (although in the UK we get that on March 1). With a Metacritic rating of 86/100 and an Open Critic rating of 84/100 Nioh has certainly gotten February off to a great start.
