Overwatch 2 Release Date Revealed Through Deleted Tweet
Gamers could be getting Overwatch 2 way before they expected it.
For fans eagerly anticipating the release of Overwatch 2, the follow-up to the ridiculously successful 2016 video game may be here a little sooner than first expected.
In a since-deleted post, the PlayStation Brazil Twitter account revealed that Overwatch 2 would be landing on PS4 at some point in 2020.
Previously, it was believed that Overwatch 2 wouldn’t be released until at least early 2021 – with this past November’s BlizzCon claiming that the sequel was still in the very early stages of development.
Despite being early in the development process, Overwatch 2 was actually playable at Anaheim’s BlizzCon 2019. Just how far into development Blizzard really are on the game, that remains to be seen.
Officially, an Overwatch 2 release date has yet to be confirmed by Blizzard. Likewise, the company has gone as far as saying that it hasn’t even given any serious consideration to when the follow-up could realistically be expected to land on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC – and that’s without considering the upcoming launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Since its initial release in 2016, Overwatch has gone on to generate over $1 billion of revenue for Blizzard and has had more than 50 million unique players. With a whole host of awards to its name, the team-based first-person shooter is viewed as one of the best games of all-time by many – and the sheer numbers and continued popularity of the game only further back up those claims.
