6. EX Gyms, EX Raid Passes & Mewtwo/Super Rare Spawns
One of the most complex things to get your head around, Pokemon GO now has EX Gyms and EX Raid Passes.
So-named because they offer access to premiere fights (and are only obtainable through gold coins), EX Raid Passes will let you fight super rare pokemon like Mewtwo.
The catch is, you have to be invited to an EX Gym - a designation on Niantic's part that players don't see, as to which gyms are secretly marked as EX ones.
If you've fought at an EX Gym when an EX Raid is being set up (they only happen once a month, or at seemingly random intervals - keep an eye on the Niantic/Pokemon GO Twitter), you'll receive an invite to the specified EX Raid.
With your EX Raid Pass in hand you can finally take part in this super-rare event. It's where Niantic have been hiding Mewtwo this whole time, and the latest one at time of writing was June 20th-21st.
Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months, and use fan forums to find your local EX gyms.
