For whatever reason, a common trope in Red, Blue and Yellow is sticking three unevolved Pokemon together and calling it an evolution.

It makes a level of sense for Magneton, sure, since magnets can stick together. Koffing is confusing enough that fans can say “fine, whatever,” to Weezing.

But why did they do this with Diglett?

As far as this writer knows, there is no phenomenon in nature where three worms can combine into one super-worm. There is no mythological story where three worms fused together to overcome a terrible foe.

There is no explanation for Dugtrio’s existence other than they just couldn’t think of anything better for Diglett’s evolution. If that’s the case...well, it’s hard not to put him on this list.
