PS5: 10 Major Worries Sony MUST Address
10. Exclusives Need To Cross More Genres
What are some of the finest experiences you remember from the PlayStation brand in recent years?
The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, God of War, Spider-Man, Uncharted and now the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima. Each of these titles are excellent, but there's a key similarity between all of them.
Each is a third-person, single-player focused, story-heavy cinematic experience. It's a formula that has defined Sony's identity for a long time now and has proven to sell countless games and consoles.
Sony's focus on cinematic, story-driven games may define their identity, but there is a danger of these titles blending together into samey releases that all look and play rather similar to each other.
PlayStation has worked to engage with indie titles and on occasion some downloadable titles make an impact, the amount of genres has slowly narrowed. As arguably the most crucial pillar of the PlayStation brand, all these top-tier releases have been wildly successful, but for their fifth console, Sony need to encourage developers to branch out.
If not, then the lead established with the PlayStation 4 may start to ring hollow with the community.
