Rainbow Six: Siege - 10 Things It'll Do Better Than Call Of Duty
Tom Clancy's biggest franchise has been away too long.
Ubisoft's Tom Clancy titles have always prided themselves on realism and authenticity - two elements distinctly lacking from the majority of first and third-person shooter titles today. At the franchise's peak, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell dominated gaming's tactical military market, catering to the more hardcore of players in the process. Gameplay was never a simple paint the numbers experience, with caution and tactical thinking being rewarded far over anything resembling a simple run n' gun approach. The last generation saw two Rainbow Six releases, namely Vegas 1 and 2, and they nailed the feeling of being part of the world's most elite forces perfectly - forcing gamers to utilise tried and tested CQC and hostage rescue skills in an area once more frequently Michael Bay than Kathryn Bigelow in nature. Not only that, but Rainbow's much renowned 'Terrorist Hunt' mode provided one of the finest co-op experiences to date, showing that teamwork and communication can still have a place in the gung-ho triple-A military titles that have come to (rather sadly) define the genre. Needless to say, the adventures of team Rainbow have been sorely missed. Thus comes the entry of Ubisoft's long gestating sequel to the Rainbow franchise, and it certainly looks impressive. Taking realism and teamwork to a whole new level, Rainbow is back and is more than ready to show Call of Duty how military shooters are done right.
