Metacritic Score: 76-81 The Verdict: Let's start by saying that Firewatch is not going to be to all tastes: it is essentially a walking simulator that puts you in the role of a fire lookout in rural Wyoming, and to that end isn't the most exciting game you could be playing right now. On the other hand, though, it's a visually stunning, meditative think-piece featuring artwork conceived by the legendary Olly Moss and co-created by the minds behind Telltale's Walking Dead series. Though it flirts with the horror genre several times, Firewatch is a game completely bereft of traditional combat and challenges: you simply investigate disturbances and chat with your supervisor, Delilah, via walkie talkie. While it arguably doesn't come together into a meaningful whole in its divisive finale, the game does a strong job evoking mood and atmosphere, and the gorgeous presentation makes it a tough one to shake.
