As an answer to Sony's Polyphony Digital with Gran Turismo, Microsoft created Turn 10 in 2001 with the mandate to satisfy the Xbox userbase with a racing franchise, and the result was the Forza Motorsport titles.

It launched its first entry on the original Xbox and delivered a slick, refined racer with powerful vehicles that impressed critics...although it couldn't escape GT's shadow.

At present though Forza is now the racing title to beat, with the Horizon spin-offs delivering a superior and fun open-world, arcade-like experience. Due to the lion share of development belonging to Playground Games though...that's why Turn-10 sits further down the list.
