Red Dead Redemption 2 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

An epic, flawed masterpiece.

There's a good chance that, like us, you spent a good portion of this past weekend shut inside playing Rockstar's latest open-world action extravaganza. After over eight years of waiting, Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally upon us, and thank heavens, it (mostly) lives up to the extraordinary hype.

Without question one of the most ambitious video games ever made, this western epic sets a new standard for the genre and for gaming as a whole, even if Rockstar's reach occasionally exceeds its grasp.

While there's already been early dissent from some players surprised by the game's slow pace, it's fair to say that most Rockstar fans will have one hell of a time with this.

As brilliant as God of War was, this is on a whole other level to pretty much anything else out there, and it's safe to say that we can probably call it the Game of the Year already.

Not all of Rockstar's choices work, but as an extremely artful and almost unimaginably detailed piece of entertainment, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a jaw-dropping testament to what the medium is capable of at its absolute best...
