Lenny was tragically killed during the botched heist in Saint Denis, shot after wrangling with a policeman. He's one of the many casualties in the city, and absolutely did not deserve to go out so needlessly.

Still, the sheer shock of seeing what is one of Arthur's closest friends (and immaculate drinking buddies) get unceremoniously gunned down brings the reality of the situation crashing down on the player.

Red Dead 2 is all about the death of the wild west; the creation of law, societies and order. Having the loveable Lenny be taken away only hammers home how much danger Dutch is continually putting the gang in.
