Pretty much all of the numerous lead characters in the series have been vastly overused over the years. Look at it this way: Chris Redfield - 5 games Jill Valentine - 4 games Leon S Kennedy - 3 games While all three are popular, their motivations never change and by the sixth game they're pretty much all working for the same anti-bioterrorism organisation, the lines are blurring and they're gradually becoming parodies of themselves. How many more times can Leon look moody under his fringe? Will Chris ever stop pumping iron? Why has Jill's backside grown considerably since the first game? All valid questions, but the key fact is that the series needs some new blood. In 6, Capcom tried with Jake but it wasn't enough, there needs to be a lead character who isn't so aware of the peril in the series, who is experiencing everything for the first time. It's much easier to form an emotional attachment with a character who is genuinely scared than someone who is grizzled and bitter from spending the last 18 years fighting a secret war.
