Resident Evil 7: 9 Times Capcom Abused The Fanbase

2. The Umbrella Corporation's Constant Ineptitude

As the shadowy pharmaceutical company behind almost everything that happens in the Resident Evil series, Capcom have given the Umbrella Corporation a short shrift. With the plot of each game revolving around a global conspiracy to create bio-organic weapons (or B.O.W as the series refers to them) and the subsequent outbreak, high casualty rate and huge amount of explosions that follow, Umbrella appear to be the most inept global mega-corp ever to be conceived. Either Umbrella themselves, or rogue employees caused the circumstances in at least 11 independent tales (that's just main games, not including the expanded work of fiction based around the series) that resulted in the destruction of huge areas including an entire city, killed the president of the United States and tore apart most of eastern Africa (okay, that was Tri-Cell, but it still came back to Umbrella). Despite the suspension of disbelief you need to play the RE games, it€™s an enormous leap of faith to expect players to buy into yet ANOTHER scenario where a power hungry Umbrella exec has unleased another virus in order to take over the world. It€™s just too much.
