1. The Epilogue's Mysterious Figure
So by now, it is common knowledge that Ethan dies in Resident Evil 7 at the hands of Jack Baker - well at least his human form anyway. Then again later he dies once more after having his heart ripped out by Mother Miranda, and then blowing himself up.
Thanks to modders, it has been revealed that the character seen beside the car in the very last shot of the game is, in fact, Ethan. But whether this is his corporeal form or just a vision is yet to be elaborated on.
Ethan is more than likely done as a lead in the RE games, but just maybe down the road, he will be part of Rosemary Winters. As a vision or just become a voice inside of her head. If that is him in some flesh form then Capcom will have a lot of explaining to do in the next instalment.
But knowing Capcom, they'll likely have something planned for this when Rose eventually becomes the new lead
