After months of speculation, Batman: Arkham developers Rocksteady Studios have finally unveiled their next project: a DC video game based on the Suicide Squad.

The studio were at one time rumoured to be working on a Superman project, and even a Justice League video game, but recent leaks and rumours had pointed towards them adapting DC's Task Force X from panel to pixel.

Rocksteady formally unveiled their project on Twitter this afternoon, posting an image of Superman with the Suicide Squad logo stylised as a crosshair, along with the caption "Target locked - #DCFanDome - August 22. #suicidesquadgame".

Back in June, users on the Resetera forums had spotted a number of domain registrations from Warner Bros., one for Batman: Gotham Knights (presumably WB Montreal's Batman title), and another for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This new image essentially confirms the latter, so expect Gotham Knights to get revealed at the DCFanDome too on August 22.

Rather than taking place in the Arkhamverse continuity, both titles are rumoured to launch a whole new DC games universe. There has also been speculation that Suicide Squad will be a Games-as-a-Service title along the lines of Square Enix's upcoming Avengers game.

No doubt we'll learn more in a couple weeks' time, but for now, it's just great to finally have confirmation from Rocksteady that they have something to show us soon. Roll on August 22.
