Sony has announced today that they have purchased Sucker Punch Productions, the makers of Infamous and Sly Cooper and a company that has nothing to do with Zack Snyder's misfiring film of this early summer. All future Sucker Punch games will be Sony exclusives; terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sly Cooper and Infamous have sold 7 million copies combined according to Sony. They had this to say:
"Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family,"
Sucker Punch Productions stated:
"We've enjoyed an incredible relationship with Sony that has allowed us to combine our creative design capabilities with their guidance to make some of the best franchises to hit the PlayStation platforms. Equally important, the relationship with SCE has provided us the flexibility and trust to take creative risks and invent new properties,"
This is a great move for Sony, after the success of the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises, Sony had little choice but to make this move. It will be interesting to see where Sucker Punch goes now that Infamous 2 has been released, do they continue making Sly Cooper games and Infamous sequels or do they go in a different direction? What would you like to see Sucker Punch do next a new IP or another sequel to one of their franchises?
