10. Not A Movie Tie-In Or Origin Story

One of the simplest yet most important reasons Spider-Man PS4 is a great game, is that it is not a movie tie-in.

Almost every Spider-Man game has been either an origin story, or a movie tie-in. Those two parameters define how creative, interesting, and, ultimately, good a game can be. Even the beloved Spider-Man 2 was a tie-in to the Sam Raimi movie.

In the case of Spider-Man PS4 however, Marvel approached Insomniac Games and offered them a clean slate. With any superhero it wanted at its disposal, Insomniac chose Spider-Man, citing his down-to-earth backstory and personality as the main appeal.

As such, Insomniac was able to craft a fantastic, original story that took place well into Peter Parker's career as hero - as opposed to yet another origin story. This is a fresh take of Spider-Man in video games, and one that sets a hell of a base for future instalments.
