Star Wars 1313 Was Going To Be About Boba Fett

Following yesterday's announcement that Disney shut down LucasArts, a bunch of new details have now surfaced about one of the company's most talked about projects, Star Wars 1313. This game was slated to be based around the seedy underbelly of Coruscant. Just imagine a Star Wars LA Noire, and a game centred around bounty hunters. All of these things got more than a few people excited. Just watch this video to see what we are missing out on. The big news that broke today comes from Kotaku.com. According to their source, the game was meant to focus on none other than Boba Fett as a playable character. This is supported by two pieces of concept art (above and below), that they also posted on their site. Apparently, this happened last May after Lucas looked at the game. He apparently told the team that he wanted it to be about Boba Fett and for the game's timeline to be set after the prequels. Although on the surface a perfect tie-in, it looks like this dream game will not happen. A LucasFilm representative confirmed that production on Star Wars 1313 and what's rumoured to be Star Wars: First Assault have both been halted following yesterday's closure of the LucasArts division. Speaking to the BBC, LucasFilm spokesperson Miles Perkins said: "Both current Star Wars games projects have been halted." After the announcement of its closure, a LucasArts representative previously stated to Game Informer that Star Wars 1313 could be released via an external licensing deal:
"We still believe in the video game industry, we still will provide Star Wars games, we're just looking at different models rather than internal production... They're evaluating everything. There's always a possibility that it can still come out via licensing."
However, a Kotaku source told that site the chances of that happening were "effectively zero." So it ppears that we will remain without a realisation of the Star Wars: Underworld universe. And now just like the semi-mythical planned live-action television series, which has been in development at Lucasfilm since 2005, Star Wars 1313 is to be shelved for the foreseeable future. It will join The Force Unleashed 3 and Battlefront 3 in Star Wars video game Limbo. Check the site for more Star Wars updates. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
