5. The Loot Grind Isn't Remotely Rewarding

Here's the elephant in the room comment: Loot grinds aren't fundamentally flawed as a 'thing' in video games.

Diablo III certainly built a reputation for having a phenomenal one, and although Overwatch is getting a lot of flak for "popularising" the idea (with the reality being that it originated in the 2000s), the old "let's take a spin and see what you get!" mentality is a satisfying one.

Though, it hinges entirely on the rewards being worthwhile.

Like some spin-the-wheel gameshow where all the prizes are take-home paperweights, Battlefront 2's array of items, taunts, victory poses and incremental mechanical tweaks are just... lame. The various victory poses are but the most minor differentiation in arm movement or perhaps a more slack posture, and then you've got increased explosion radius' for grenades, damage boosts, turning circle enhancements for vehicles.

It's tragic.

If you're going to do a loot grind, players most likely won't argue it's fun on some level, but you have to nail the rewards on the other end. This is part n' parcel of why Battlefront 2 is kicking up a stink - even those who've stuck with it are getting shafted.
