7. DICE's Version Of Air-To-Ground Combat Is Very "Guided"

Alongside this improved sense of flight and in-air manoeuvrability, we got our first taste of just how the "air to ground" combat is going to work.

Though the feature has been bandied about in preview coverage, in-game you're not hopping in and out of TIE Fighters or other vehicles at will.

Instead, the X Wing-chasing mission amongst Death Star rubble saw Iden land her TIE Fighter on a Rebel cruiser when the story checkpoint said so, to which I leapt out and continued the fight on-foot. Phenomenally, this allowed DICE to let you essentially play out Vader's "corridor massacre" from the close of Rogue One, albeit without a lightsaber.

The sequence then ended by leaping into another TIE Fighter and resuming in-air combat - there was no option other than to follow the critical path, though as a linear sequence it still felt fantastic to play.

Honestly, this might disappoint fans who were looking forward to DICE aping Pandemic's cancelled Battlefront 3 footage (where players could hop in and out of vehicles at will), but I have to say that in the moment, these levels work best when played in the "way" the team have designed.
