Super Slim PS3 Outed?

Does recent FFC filing reveal an even slimmer version of Sony's home console?

Leaked documents regarding Sony€™s Playstation 3 have revealed that the company may soon announce an even slimmer version of their home console. The Japanese firm has appeared to have drawn-up plans for the slimmer PS3 labeled as the 4000 series, which many are predicting to be announced at Gamescom next month. The diagrams, which were first noticed by Japanese website Pocket News show a slimmer PS3 next to it€™s much fatter older bothers. There is more to these rumours; when asked at last months E3 about a new super slim Playstation Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida replied with:
"We should never say never, hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller."
This move would not be out of character for Sony as they have already re-branded the PlayStation 3 in August of 2009, which was also announce at Gamescom. The current PS3 slim is known as the 3000 series and boasts 32 per cent smaller and 36 per cent lighter than it€™s fatter brother and consumes 34 per cent less power as well. But would this move make sense if Sony are to release the next generation of their console; the Playstation 4 next year? Well yes, they have done it before! In a similar move the Playstation One, which was a slimmer and smaller version of the original Playstation, was release in the twilight years of the consoles life cycle. The same goes for the PS2 which also saw a slim version of itself released years into it€™s generation. As the PS3 has had a longer lifetime than it's older brothers it would make sense if Sony were to produce a second redesign of their product. PS3 may try to cash-in on an even slimmer and cheaper model to take advantage of even more late adopters.
