Dogs have long been considered mans best friend, and this is especially true in gaming. Fast, ferocious, and loyal, canines can be better side characters than actual human beings. Despite their simple nature, most gamers agree that these fluffy sidekicks can be some of the best characters in the medium. These steadfast companions are easy to understand, fun to have around, and make for great company on an otherwise lonely journey. Sometimes they exist for purely sentimental purpose, providing the player company on the long, lonesome road ahead. Other times, they serve more functional purposes, saving the player on multiple occasions as well as picking up any valuables they might find along the way. Of course, dogs also have the tendency to incredibly stubborn-and at times, just stupid-but we love them regardless. Compared to the more finicky companions who might leave your side if you're getting "too evil", dogs show an undying loyalty, fighting by your side to the death, for whatever reason. Regardless of genre, whether its a turn-based RPG, first person shooter, or survival horror game, theres no situation that cannot be improved by adding a puppy. Because who doesn't love dogs?
