5. Civilization Has Returned

The cutscene we are shown begins in a scenario fittingly horrifying for a post-apocalypse game - a barn dance.

People spin around each other and drink, looking cheery and merry - this clearly isn't the miserable ruins of America from the first game in which no-one can trust each other. People no longer struggle to survive, it seems.

We see Ellie in great detail and it's implied Joel is around too, so they must have found sanctuary after the events of the first game. On a larger scale, apparently civilization and community has returned to the world of The Last of Us .

This doesn't last long, though. Soon enough Ellie is shooting arrows at people and hacking them up with a machete.
