The Medium REVIEW: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. Troy Baker's Performance

Bloober Team

Massive shout out to Troy Baker, turning in something I couldn't believe was him until I saw the final credits.

Now, if you're keeping up with The Medium's pre-release interviews and coverage, you'll know that Troy is playing an entity called "Maw", but the main thing I want to champion is this veteran voice actor going completely against expectations.

This is a guy who started the eighth generation as Last of Us' Joel and Bioshock's Booker, became the Arkham Knight and Revolver Ocelot, then closed things out as The Avengers' Bruce Banner and Simon Krieger in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

For him to turn in a snarling, twisted, genuinely disturbing performance that feels pained and like he's contorting his own vocal chords at every turn, makes Maw stand out as this generation's first iconic horror villain.
