The Order: 1886 Developer's Next Game Is...

... not at ALL what you'd expect.

Looking like some mass market brand meeting gained sentience and opened a Youtube account, Ready at Dawn's very kid-friendly 'De-formers' trailer shows their latest attempt at maximum console glory.

Formerly the developers of the PSP God of War games and the truly awesome solo Daxter spin-off, the team were to make The Order: 1886 their first major title not solely resigned to handhelds. Sadly it didn't go over too well, being the game was more a glorified cutscene than anything else, and it appears now they've had to go back to the drawing board for a surefire win.

That means cutesy characters, a genre 'anybody' can play, and an eye on the competition to ensure they fit in. The result? A third-person arena 'shooter' with balled-up avatars, squishy toy merchandise potential and a graphics engine that looks to be eyeing up Overwatch's unprecedented success.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, this could be great fun in short bursts, but I can't help but be a little disappointed considering the pedigree of everything else they've done so far. Despite The Order stumbling at launch, Victorian werewolf hunting with badass steampunk weapons is far more appealing than something that looks as though you'll tire within minutes.

But hey, I could be wrong, and I'd love to be. Rocket League came out of nowhere and blew us all away, so please Ready at Dawn, prove me wrong.
