As the Internet continues to pick apart the first gameplay trailer for Halo: Infinite, both Microsoft and developers 343 Studios have attempted to clear up exactly what fans were looking at.

One of the biggest complaints has been in the graphics department. Infinite is the biggest launch title for the Xbox Series X, yet from a purely visual standpoint it doesn't look like that major of a step up compared to other flagship titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Gears 5. In many ways, it actually looked worse.

Microsoft has since confirmed that the gameplay trailer was actually made from an older build of the sequel, one that's roughly four months old. Also, it actually wasn't running on Xbox Series X hardware, but rather on a PC that was intended to mimic the experience players will get on the upcoming console.

Consequently, a lot is still subject to change in regards to the game's look and performance. Will the release version look completely different? Almost certainly not, but what you saw isn't necessarily reflective of the final version. Xbox's Aaron Greenberg also promised that Infinite would be a "visual showcase" for the console, and that progress is being made every day.
