Tomb Raider is being delayed until the first quarter of 2013. Yes, it is true. Darrell Gallagher, the head of Crystal Dynamics, announced the delay with a statement posted on the official forums and blog for Tomb Raider. With the delay announced, Crystal Dynamics released the screenshot above, effectively teasing the content that will be set to debut at E3 next month. Seems reasonable to believe that we will learn exactly how Lara gathers the tools for her survival.

Here is Gallagher's full statement on the reasoning behind the delay:

"When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers.

The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can€™t wait to share it with you.Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game€™s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.

We€™re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait.

The game is looking amazing and we can€™t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.

From the looks of the screenshot, and the heart being placed into the title, we should all be preparing for a new Lara Croft adventure like none before. Crystal Dynamics desires to create the best game of their careers, and from the looks of what was shown at last year's E3 they are certainly on the right path. While the wait will be a painful one, it seems it will be more than worth it.

Be sure to stay tuned as we will be providing more information on the highly anticipated reboot as it becomes available. E3 is inevitably going to reveal another incredible display of the game in action, and you definitely do not want to miss it.
