TYOA: 8 Forgotten Video Game DLCs You NEED To Play

8. Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Desolation of Mordor

Middle-earth: Shadow of War launched to a relatively mixed reception, many complaining about its bloated open world, poor story, and grotesque implementation of microtransactions.

And so, by the time the Desolation of Mordor DLC was released seven months later, all but the most die hard of players were done with the game and had little interest in returning to it.

But Desolation of Mordor was a brilliantly bold DLC which saw players take control of a mortal man, Baranor, the Captain of Minas Ithil, while introducing a roguelike structure which saw progress reset upon death.

This naturally made the DLC feel very different from the main game, while the dusty new region of Lithlad was a breath of fresh air, and with a mere three-ish hour play-time, it was snappy and concise in all the ways that the core experience wasn't.

But again, Shadow of War's launch left such a sour taste with many that there was simply no coming back for this DLC, no matter how good it was.
