10. German U-Boat - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

You act like you've never seen a German U-boat in the middle of the jungle before?

A defining moment of Naughty Dog's newest game in the fall of 2007, Nate and Sully discovering a the titanic vessel beached at the foot of a waterfall was perhaps the first glimpse at the series' ability to create jaw-dropping moments embedded in a thrilling --albeit familiar-- narrative.

Nate searches the boat and discovers a coin and map that provided a further breadcrumb on the trail to El Dorado before being apprehended by the game's antagonists, Roman and Navarro.

The colossal piece of 20th century engineering was a fish out of water (well, a boat out of water to be specific), and its curious appearance in a sweltering South American jungle was a wonderful way to hold the player's attention. After a shocking turn of events sees Sully mercilessly gunned down, the vessel explodes in true Uncharted fashion.

The U-boat was the first substantial scene in the series, and though there have been a plethora of set-pieces that far eclipse it, credit must be given for the U Boat being the first to drop our collective jaws.
