Wolfenstein - The New Order: Official Announcement Trailer
Wolfenstein, robots and Jimi Hendrix - that's a pretty awesome combination to show off a new game, no? Having been secretly under development at MachineGames for some time, Wolfenstein: The New Order is an action-adventure shooter in the same vein as the previous games, albeit revitalised with some new elements, specifically that the Nazi horde you're fighting this time is accompanied by a gigantic fleet of robots. Following the lukewarm reception to 2009's Wolfenstein - which resulted in many of Raven Software's staff being laid off - publisher Bethesda along with MachineGames are no doubt hoping that this bold reimagination of the series will spark consumer interest once again, and compensate for the problems that plagued the last game (namely glitches and a forgettable campaign). The official synopsis (courtesy of Gamespot) is as such:
The game takes place during 1960 in an alternate history world where the Nazis won World War II. Players assume the role of series protagonist William "B.J." Blazkowicz and are tasked with launching an "impossible counter-offensive" against the Nazi powers that have taken over the world. Set in Europe, The New Order will have players infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies, while taking control of "super weapons" that the Nazis have used to dominate Earth."We can only hope that with that premise, the game will still feature the ultra-violence and irreverent, dark humour that made the earlier games such a joy to play. Wolfenstein: The New Order is scheduled for release in Q4 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and next generation consoles.
