The current model of Sting only pulls an 89 rating in WWE 2K16, which does sound about right. This makes it a challenge for him to keep up with some of the more modern WWE stars, such as Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan and John Cena, but also gives the game some variety. After all, it'd be pretty poor if today's Sting, who isn't as quick as he used to be, was rated the same as the same man from years gone by. In the game, Sting from 1999 holds a 92 rating, which is the same for his 'Surfer' variation from 1991. Both are a lot of fun to play as, wholly dependent on which guise of the man players prefer. The strongest is perhaps the 'Crow' Sting, because the player then has the Scorpion Death Drop at their disposal. The earlier Sting uses the Scorpion Death Lock as his finishing holds. It's a lot of fun to try and beat better wrestlers with the modern-day Sting, but it's arguably a lot more enjoyable to destroy them as the version of the character most remember from WCW in the 90's. Sting '99 matches up well against many others in the game, making him a solid choice.
