After the brand extension's return was announced last week, meaning that SmackDown and RAW are going to have exclusive rosters from July 19, many expected the old SmackDown Vs. RAW titles to return for the company's marquee video game. However, the initial listing indicates the basic 'WWE 2K17' title will remain - SVR was used between 2004-11.

However, this appears to be far from set in stone as a couple of key details for the new game are still up in the air. The listing on Shop.WWE.com does not feature a cover star as has become the norm in recent years, while the in-stock date of December 31 is reportedly a placeholder until the official release date is confirmed. Many online sources are projecting an October 6 release date for 2K and WWE's fourth collaborative effort.

All we know for sure about the game so far is that it will cost $59.99 and will be available for PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 - although a PC version should be confirmed at a later date. It will also have "stunningly realistic graphics, ultra-authentic gameplay, and a massive roster featuring your favourite WWE and NXT Superstars and Legends."

It looks like NXT will still be around following July 19 then...

If we are to get a basic 'WWE 2K17' title, could this mean the featured Showcase Mode could surround the brand extension? A detailed SmackDown vs. RAW mode, especially about the early years of the draft, would be a hit with WWE's gaming universe.
