Despite the huge popularity of table top gaming and model painting, Games Workshop and Warhammer are looked down upon by the majority of the gaming community. It is certainly perceived as being highly niche and inaccessible to outsiders. Yet, lest us not forget thine humble roots. Table top role playing games are the great grandfather of the modern RPG and as much as we may scoff at it, the fundamental principles remain. It is a cult occupation that very much thrives off being niche. Yet, seemingly at odds with this is Warhammer's continuing expansion into the realm of computer games. For the most part the transition has been successful, the Dawn of War games are particularly accomplished, yet they have still suffered from generally only appealing to the pre-existing market. In hope of breaking into the lucrative console market, Warhammer and developer Relic Entertainment has given us Space Marine, a third person action/shooter that aims to open the Warhammer universe to the masses.
