It's been apparent in recent years that the single player experience by and large is receiving less attention and being toned down in favour of promoting an online multiplayer experience, no matter how shoehorned and unnecessary it might feel. The massive success of Call of Duty's online multiplayer means that just about every game now has it, complete with a leveling system, though in most cases, players will give these modes a quick try-out before deciding that they're not really up to muster and moving on. Having an ever-connected console will even further tip this balance, as there will never be even the possibility of taking your console offline and just rinsing through the single player of a game; it will dillute the experience of playing a game on your own, and though the social aspect of Xbox Live is fantastic, it isn't the base on which amazing gaming experiences are formed.
