10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Horror Movie History
2. George A. Romero's Resident Evil
Even with the Resident Evil video game franchise having spawned seven live-action films to date - as well as a truly dreadful TV series - fans still mourn the fact that horror legend George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and so on) never got to produce his planned adaptation.
Romero, the crowned king of the zombie film as we know it, was approached by Capcom in the late 1990s to write and direct a Resident Evil movie - a prospect which seemed like a perfect fusion between artist and material.
Yet Capcom and Sony both ended up passing on Romero's screenplay, which was loosely based on the original game. Ultimately the first Resident Evil movie was written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, while bearing little resemblance to its inspiration.
Over 20 years later, fans still lament what could've been had Capcom and Sony unleashed the most iconic horror filmmaker of all time on Resident Evil.
Hell, a documentary recounting Romero's involvement with the franchise - aptly entitled George A. Romero's Resident Evil - was even recently released.
While there's no guarantee whatsoever that Romero would've given fans the all-timer Resident Evil adaptation they're still waiting for, it's a damn shame they didn't get to find out for themselves.
