10 Horror Movie Plot Twists EVERYONE Guessed
2. Spiral: From The Book Of Saw - William Did It
Spiral: From the Book of Saw is a solid Seven-esque serial killer flick that got far too much hate from critics and Saw fans, but it does have one huge strike against it: it boasts one of the most predictable horror movie plot twists... well, ever.
The number-one giveaway of a fake-out death is, as has been discussed in several of these entries, an important character dying off-screen. Instead of making an effort to trick the audience, Spiral doubles down on this. Protagonist Detective Ezekiel Banks (Chris Rock) discovers a flayed corpse which apparently belongs to his new partner William Schenk (Max Minghella). The murder, which doesn't fit the modus operandi of the new killer at all, is left mostly off-screen and also means that the corpse is difficult to identify.
As such, when Ezekiel later finds William waiting for him after a trap, it provoked nothing but groans. If the corpse had been William and the film had been pretending to be predictable, that would've been awesome, and it's a real shame they went down the most predictable route. Also, William's plan to fake his death made zero sense as dental records would've quickly revealed that the body wasn't him, so why did the film bother with this at all? This entire twist was a shambles on every conceivable level, a blot upon an otherwise entertaining murder mystery.
