15 More Horror Movie Endings That Get Worse The More You Think About It
2. Life - Calvin Escapes To Earth
Life is a so-so Alien knock-off that's best remembered for two things. Firstly, the clever way in which it killed off Ryan Reynolds, one of the movie's biggest stars, first in the form of a gruesome death scene that shook everyone up. Secondly, it's got a predictable yet undeniably bruising ending, in which the Martian life-form that's killed the inhabitants of an international space station - nicknamed Calvin - escapes to earth in an escape pod.
The pod lands in the Pacific Ocean and a Vietnamese fishing boat approach. The pod's other occupant, David (Jake Gyllenhaal), tries to tell him not to open the pod but it is in vain. The movie ends just as the pod is opened; no sequel has emerged, so audiences have been left to forever ponder what happened next in terror.
Well, Calvin had been established as a super-smart and deadly life-form while on the space station and it also absorbs those that it consumes. It'd grown significantly bigger through absorbing the astronauts and with an unlimited supply of food on earth, it might've grown to Kaiju-size.
Calvin has its weaknesses and it's likely that humanity would've eventually been able to contain it but at a terrible cost, no doubt. Frankly, Calvin could easily have killed millions of people before being stopped.
