20 Horror Movie Endings Way Worse Than You Think

7. Saint Maud

2019's brilliant psychological horror film Saint Maud ends with Maud (Morfydd Clark) being entirely consumed by her mental illness, as she wanders onto a beach, douses herself in acetone, and sets herself on fire.

Though the film teases us with a brief ethereal glimpse of Maud apparently "ascending," we then smash-cut back to the brutal reality, that she's just burned herself to death on a beach and met an immensely painful end.

It's an utterly horrifying ending, and while it's impossible not to agonise over the circumstances that led Maud down this self-immolating path, we should probably spare a thought for the several-dozen onlookers on the beach who just saw a woman commit suicide totally out of nowhere.

It's already a totally devastating outcome, but even worse when you consider the overwhelming amount of trauma inflicted upon those who were unfortunate enough to also be on the beach at that moment.
