20 Horror Movies That Are FINALLY Happening
6. Herbert West: Reanimator
The Re-Animator series bore three films between 1985 and 2003, though all attempts to get a fourth made haven't panned out, and with the passing of franchise director Stuart Gordon in 2020, many came to believe that would be the end of Re-Animator.
That absolutely seemed to be the case for a while, especially with the series' limited-at-best commercial prospects. In April 2025, though, it was announced that a new adaptation of the original 1920s H.P. Lovecraft story, "Herbert West–Reanimator," was in the works from The Haunting in Connecticut screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe.
We know virtually nothing about this new Re-Animator movie, though given that it appears to be a slate-clearing reboot of the IP, we probably shouldn't expect to see Jeffrey Combs reprise his role as Herbert West. But if it's done right, this could absolutely be a ripe opportunity to resurrect the bonkers franchise for a whole new generation.
