When David F. Sandberg's feature debut Lights Out grossed almost $150 million globally on a mere $5 million budget back in the summer of 2016, it was little surprise that Warner Bros. speedily greenlit a sequel, with both Sandberg and writer Eric Heisserer set to return.

And so, another horror franchise was seemingly born. However, we heard virtually nothing on the sequel's development in the near-decade afterwards, all while Sandberg moved on and became a genuine blockbuster filmmaker with the Shazam! franchise.

Last year, Sandberg himself suggested that the time had most likely passed for Lights Out 2, though back in March the sequel was indeed officially confirmed, with Sandberg and Heisserer on board as producers.

We know nothing else about the film - namely whether it'll continue from the Teresa Palmer-starring original or effectively be a soft reboot - but about a decade later than it probably should've turned up, Lights Out 2 is indeed coming our way within the next few years.
