15. Patrick Is Also An Android - Companion

Though some complained about Companion revealing that protagonist Iris (Sophie Thatcher) is an android in its marketing, this at least prevented audiences from figuring out another twist that was hidden in plain sight.

Midway through the movie, we find out that there's actually another companion bot among the six main characters, with Eli's (Harvey Guillén) absurdly good-looking boyfriend Patrick (Lukas Gage) also outed as a companion droid. However, unlike Iris, he's fully aware that he isn't human from the outset, and yet loves Eli regardless.

It's a genuinely surprising reveal and one which introduces a fun wrinkle later on, when the villainous Josh (Jack Quaid) takes control of Patrick and turns him into a basically Terminator-like killer to ends both horrifying and tragic.

It's a credit to both Gage's performance in the role and how brilliantly the script misdirects the audience that just about nobody saw this reveal coming.
