20 Recent Horror Movies That Made ONE Huge Mistake
5. The HUGE Exposition Dump - Keeper
As talented a filmmaker as he is, in his last few movies Oz Perkins has proven himself a little too reliant on lengthy third act exposition dumps in order to bring the audience up to speed on quite what the hell is going on.
And his most recent film Keeper is his most egregious example yet, as the film basically slams into a brick wall in act three as Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) reveals to his partner Liz (Tatiana Maslany) that he's actually hundreds of years old, the result of feeding people to a strange creature which grants him an extended lifespan in return.
Though this is all inherently intriguing, the delivery system is painfully banal and demonstrates a blatant lack of trust in the audience to follow what's happening.
And more than this, the relentless exposition sucks all the dread-soaked energy out of the film, undoing so much of Perkins' strong atmospheric work up to that point.
