20 Upcoming Horror Movies NOBODY Asked For

9. The Amityville Horror Reboot

There's no single horror franchise more undeniably driven into the ground than The Amityville Horror, because beyond the original 1979 film and its 2005 remake, there are literally dozens and dozens of other Amityville-themed movies. This is because the underlying facts of the Amityville case aren't protected by copyright, meaning that anyone can make even a most tangential horror flick and just slap the Amityville branding on it for some easy cash.

But back in September, Amazon MGM announced a new big-budget studio Amityville movie, with David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Until Dawn) set to direct.

As talented as Sandberg is, Amityville as a concept just feels so thoroughly played out in 2026, and while the branding is obviously what Amazon is banking on here, is there much likelihood of this "reimagining" being anything more than another generic haunted house film?

Considering it'll be competing with another studio-backed Amityville picture from Deadstream filmmakers Joseph and Vanessa Winter, which was announced several months prior, Sandberg's version seems even more unasked-for.
