3. Audition Remake

The fact that Hollywood hasn't managed to crack a remake of Takashi Miike's Audition in the more than 25 years since it came out is all the proof you need that it probably shouldn't happen.

Once upon a time, Kevin Bacon tried developing his own remake that ended up going nowhere, but at the start of 2025, it was announced that veteran producer Mario Kassar was mounting a new adaptation of Ryu Murakami's original novel.

Though Kassar has vowed to produce a new take that features scenes from the novel that were cut from Miike's original film, it's tough to picture this remake recapturing the nauseatingly grim vibes of Miike's adaptation. Even with rock-solid director Christian Tafdrup (Speak No Evil) at the helm, this really just feels like one of those stories that's better left alone.

The 1999 film has aged superbly, and yet it has neither the commercial premise nor the sizable fanbase that might make a remake worthwhile.
